Artist's Comments

a commission for the adorable imaginative (and thoroughly patient) girl :iconwhite-porcelain:

it's her character, Berenika, a medieval vampire who also happens to be a night-shift - stained glass windows' creator,
of course i'm sure you can imagine all the tragism that comes from the combination of being a vampire and at the same time an artist creating stained-glass windows which obviously tend to look the most beautifully in the daylight, while poor Berenika, being a vampire, will either never see her own creations in their whole beauty, or will see them but for the high price of her immortal life,
in my picture the heroine's standing on a scaffolding on a full-moon night watching carefully one of her yet unfinished stained-glass windows(i think it's presenting Salome's victorious walk with the decapitated St.JohnTheBaptist's head on a plate,:hmm:but who can tell really what medieval vampires have in mind while creating stained-glass windows:confused:), and yes, feel free to point out that in my picture as for a medieval vampire Berenika seems to be a really strangely avant-garde artist:omg::blushes:

heh, against my darkest predictions, i still sincerely hope Karolina is going to like the picture at least a little bit:fingerscrossed:

:omg: That looked different the last time I saw it...the change of theme in the glass window is probably quite a good idea, since Salome seems a much more "vampiric" theme than St. George...and I like the living, detailed and ornamental way it is done quite a lot  (not to mention that, even though she may never see the sun, she has a wonderful working atmosphere with those hundreds of moths fluttering around her :))

What a wonderful story/concept, and an equally wonderful interpretation! :3 I love how most of the drawing consists of the pure colours and patterns of the stained glass window--it almost looks like an abstract design until you look closer. Beautiful! :D

The window is lovely -- is that a girl walking along a lake, with a head in her hands? I can see her reflection. I wonder what the story of that is... I'd love to read about the stained-glass-window vampire. What an interesting character. THis must have been so much fun to draw ^^

She breaks a bottle, lets it slip
As if the whipping wind could lash,
Could drag it gently from her grip--
She smiles,
and the green shards flash
between her parted lips.
